Mat Collishaw – Dubai Expo 2020

On this project I collaborated closely with the artist and the design team to create multiple insect vignettes for this large scale zoetrope which is the central feature of the Sustainability Pavilion at Dubai Expo. I was responsible for the creation of all the insect models and their animations, culminating in over 300 individual 3D printed critters.

The zoetrope is a kinetic artwork made of CNC cut stainless steel engineered parts, electronic and hydraulic components, and hand painted 3D printed nylon. There is a pool of water at the base of the artwork and it is engineered to rise, lower, rotate, and the ‘petal’ components open and close.
